Dear University of Iowa parking office:
The Myrtle parking lot is an outrage of a magnitude that…well, seems pretty typical at Iowa. ‘Let’s make it easier for students to pay by allowing payment with credit card’…oh wait that doesn’t work yet, so essentially there are two coin meters for EVERY parking space in the lot. And there is no option to pay for partial hours; so since I am only at BLB for one hour and 10 minutes for PR three days a week, I get to pay for two hours each day. Basically, highway robbery. I die a little inside with every quarter I feed those pay stations. Oh, and after charging me for two full hours when I only need an hour and ten, be sure to keep that nickel because I only have quarters.
At least with the meters, you could pay for partial hours. A parking ramp downtown allows payment in 15 minute increments. It’s not like the technology isn’t there; but once again, Iowa didn’t really think things through. I know in my recession diet post I advocated walking to save money; now the motivation is to give as little money as possible to the University of Iowa. Nice job parking office. Oh yeah and be sure to never answer my emails.
Also, I don’t usually drive, but it seems like having individual meters would be easier for people to pay, and for them to check, rather than having a central set of machines that everyone has to line up to pay. Good to see we’re both fascinated with this discussion of fee agreements in PR, Morgan.

Also, good luck getting an explanation from them about why they won’t even consider a scheme that keeps undergrads out of the law school lot after hours.

Indeed. I totally feel lame that my major pet peeve at this point is that parking lot. But I’m in such a mood to complain these days.
I too hated the Myrtle lot (and the undergrads using the law school lot) while at Iowa. I’m now at a different school, and I assure you the parking situation is far worse here (I had to hike over a mile to get to class the other day because there was no parking…I eventually left my car in an abandoned dirt lot, and luckily it was still there when class was finished).
